Loved Hida, the hotel was ideal in the hills of Japan. I was offered a room with exceptionally good views of the mountains and river. All the staff was very friendly and exceptionally attentive, tackled my issues. The venue has quiet location close to a wonderful Japanese garden, carp filled canals, and the nearby river bank where line of cherry blossoms trees are lit up by light.
Tbh, rooms were quite bad.

The staff? Super friendly, always ready to help. Dinner was a feast, you gotta come hungry! We had a thermal bath suite that was to die for. They even left us a cute photo from dinner! Just a shame I couldn't keep the onsen to myself longer, wanted a bit more time in there.

Staying here with my kids was lovely! The spacious junior suite with tatami flooring felt so traditional, and the outdoor onsen was a hit. Exploring the charming neighborhood and enjoying the delicious shabu shabu meal.
In my wife's opinion, better pillows would elevate comfort.

The warm welcome and attentive service from the staff stood out, coupled with the beautifully presented meals that featured good chopped salads. Enjoying the fine sunset views from our mountain-view suite was a highlight, complemented by the comfortable and spacious accommodations. The public bath area was smaller than expected, and some amenities could use a refresh for better comfort. The somewhat unclear pricing structure for dinner also left a bit to be desired.

charming stay but some areas need attention
The traditional guest house is beautifully located by the river. I loved the spacious room with a unique teal decor, made for an inviting atmosphere. The Onsen baths were pristine and offered a relaxing retreat, open all day to enjoy.
The overall experience is good but the dinner pricing could be clearer.

It was a good match for exploring the town in Hida with good value for cost. The private bath was a lovely surprise, made our stay even better. Consider taking a walk by the river during sunset for some beautiful views.

Enjoyed the spacious traditional Japanese room with a stunning view of a Buddhist temple across the river which felt authentic. The private onsen-style bath was welcoming, especially outdoors in the cool air. Temper your expectations for western comforts, as sleeping on a futon is part of the experience.

I chose to stay at Yatsusankan because of its close proximity to Hida Furukawa Old Town. I wanted to explore the historic streets and traditional houses in the area, and this hotel was the perfect choice for that. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the complimentary newspapers in the lobby and the convenient luggage storage facility. The authentic Japanese dinner served at the hotel's private dining area, featuring Hida beef and local produce, was also a delightful highlight.
Comfort and service come at a cost.

The private hot spring baths were a delight, I felt like a fancy mermaid. The library was my personal sanctuary, where I learned all about the ancient art of napping. The hotel staff were so attentive, they practically read my mind.
The dry cleaning/laundry service was a bit disappointing, I mean, who wants clean clothes anyway?
